VA Announces Lower Life Insurance Premiums for Millions of Veterans and Service Members
In December 2024, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced a significant reduction in life insurance premiums for over 3 million veterans, service members, and spouses covered under its programs. The discount will take effect in spring 2025 and applies to those insured through Veterans’ Group Life Insurance (VGLI), Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI), and Family Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (FSGLI), as well as new enrollees in these programs.

Currently, VA life insurance programs cover 5.6 million Americans, providing vital financial protection for military families. The premium reduction will be automatically applied to all eligible participants, requiring no action on their part.
