IACG Launches Nationwide Insurance Drive to Protect Small Businesses
The Insurance Awareness Coordinators Group (IACG), comprising key industry stakeholders including the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG), Ghana Insurance College (GIC), and the National Association of Ghana Insurance Agents (NAGIA), with support from the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), is set to launch a nationwide insurance drive aimed at protecting small businesses.

The initiative, announced by IACG Chairman Wilson Tei, will reach over 1,000 small business owners across the Western and Western North Regions. The program aims to bridge the insurance gap among unserved small and medium-sized business owners and promote a better understanding of business insurance benefits.
According to Tei, the campaign will provide valuable data for insurance companies to design tailored insurance products meeting the specific risk needs of Ghana’s informal sector. Kyeame Ghansah, Head of Research at NIC, emphasized that the program will help small business owners recognize the importance of insuring their enterprises against unforeseen risks, aligning with NIC’s broader strategy to increase insurance penetration in Ghana.
Prince Quayson of GIA noted that the program, a collaborative effort by industry stakeholders, will be conducted annually, targeting informal sector business owners in different regions. The four-day campaign will commence on April 28, 2025, in Takoradi, with stops in Tarkwa, Sefwi Wiawso, and Bibiani.
The event will feature key industry leaders, including Acting Commissioner of Insurance Dr. Abiba Zakaria, IACG Chairman Wilson Tei, IBAG President Shaibu Ali, and GIA CEO Dr. Kingsley Kwabahson.
