Former Ellettsville Reserve Officer Arrested for Insurance Fraud
A former reserve officer with the Ellettsville Police Department is facing charges after allegedly falsifying insurance documents to secure contracts for his lawn care business. Aaron Waltz was arrested on Thursday and charged with two counts of counterfeiting, both Level 6 felonies.
The investigation began on May 8 when a representative from First Insurance Group reported that Waltz had used outdated insurance policy numbers to manipulate documents and gain business contracts. One of his clients, Orion Property Management, contacted the insurance company to verify the authenticity of Aaron’s Lawncare and Maintenance’s insurance coverage. First Insurance Group confirmed that Waltz did not have an active policy with their company.
Investigators discovered that in July 2024, Orion Properties took over a property in Bedford, Indiana, and contracted Waltz’s lawn care services. When asked, Waltz provided a certificate of insurance that appeared valid but was later determined to be fraudulent. In May, he provided an updated certificate with the same fraudulent policy number.
During an interview with police, Waltz admitted to forging the documents to maintain his active business accounts. His initial hearing is scheduled for June 6.
The Ellettsville Police Department confirmed that Waltz was no longer with their department as of May 22. Ellettsville is located approximately eight miles northwest of Bloomington in Monroe County.
