CFC, a specialist insurance provider known for its focus on emerging risks and cyber insurance, has announced the appointment of Nick Line as its next chief underwriting officer. Line is set to join CFC in 2026, following nearly three decades at Markel, where he has served as CUO since 2018.

Line brings extensive experience in both actuarial and underwriting functions to his new role, having worked in the insurance industry since 1997. During his time at Markel, he played a crucial role in developing new product offerings, expanding into international markets, and integrating acquisitions. His leadership helped broaden the scope and scale of Markel’s underwriting portfolio while strengthening its underwriting discipline and operational infrastructure.

Key Highlights of Nick Line’s Background

    • 28 years of experience at Markel
    • Served as CUO at Markel since 2018
    • Expertise in actuarial and underwriting functions
    • Significant industry involvement outside corporate responsibilities

Line’s industry involvement extends beyond his corporate role. He currently chairs the Inclusion @ Lloyd’s committee, which aims to promote diversity and inclusion in the Lloyd’s market. He is also a member of the Lloyd’s Market Association’s CUO Committee, a forum for underwriting leaders to discuss market-wide issues and developments.

CFC Group CEO Louise O’Shea welcomed Line’s appointment, stating that his experience in technical underwriting and international operations aligns with CFC’s strategic direction. She noted that CFC and Markel share similar approaches to service delivery and team culture, which will facilitate Line’s transition.

Line’s decision to join CFC follows a long-standing professional relationship between the two companies, dating back to 2019. Markel has acted as a capacity provider across various parts of CFC’s managing general agent (MGA) portfolio, including transaction liability and terrorism insurance. This collaboration has led to joint efforts on product innovation and capacity deployment in specialist lines.

“The opportunity to join CFC offers a platform to apply my experience in a new context,” Line said. “CFC’s focus on innovation and flexible operating model has long appealed to me, and I’m excited to take on this new challenge.”

CFC’s recent executive hires, including Line, are part of the company’s broader leadership reshuffle aimed at supporting its continued international expansion and long-term growth across its core business lines.
