Alabama Chiropractor on Trial for Poisoning Wife with Lead in Bid for Life Insurance Payout

An Alabama chiropractor, Brian Thomas Mann, 36, is on trial for allegedly poisoning his 25-year-old wife, Hannah Mann, with lead in a bid to claim a $1.3 million life insurance payout. Hannah testified that their marriage was ‘rough’ initially but improved after the birth of their first child in January 2020. However, she began falling ill by August 2021, experiencing severe abdominal pain, back pain, and nausea. An X-ray in October 2021 revealed a glitter-like substance in her stomach, which was later diagnosed as lead poisoning. Hannah claimed her husband discouraged her from seeking medical help and isolated her from her family and friends. She was hospitalized for two months from January to March 2022. The husband’s alleged plan unraveled after Hannah was diagnosed with lead poisoning, leading to his arrest in 2022. Hannah detailed that Brian held multiple life insurance policies against her, totaling $1.3 million, with additional applications worth $1.5 million that were denied. Brian has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Hannah’s testimony revealed that Brian’s actions became suspicious after she started feeling ill. She stated that he would say doctors would send her home if she went, discouraging her from seeking medical attention. By November 2021, Hannah was experiencing dizzy spells and had lost 50 pounds, weighing around 100 pounds. Her condition worsened, and she was eventually hospitalized. The police investigation began after a nurse practitioner reported Hannah’s condition to the Department of Human Resources, which then contacted the police. When officers arrived at the Mann’s residence, Brian was not home, but he later called the police from the hospital, claiming Hannah had taken white powder, a generic form of Miralax. Further investigation led to the discovery of Hannah’s lead poisoning, and subsequent charges against Brian.

The trial has brought to light the details of the couple’s marriage and the events leading up to Hannah’s illness. The prosecution’s case relies heavily on Hannah’s testimony and the medical evidence collected during her hospitalization. The defense has not commented on the allegations. The trial is ongoing, with the prosecution presenting its case against Brian Thomas Mann.
