Centre County residents concerned about identity theft will have the opportunity to securely dispose of sensitive documents at a free shredding event on Saturday, June 21. The event, hosted by state Rep. Kerry Benninghoff and Sen. Cris Dush, will take place from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority located at 253 Transfer Road in Bellefonte.
Residents are encouraged to bring documents containing personal information, such as old tax returns and medical records, to be shredded on-site. To participate, simply place the documents in a box or paper bag in the trunk or truck bed of your vehicle. Staff from the recycling authority will remove the materials, shred them, and process them for reuse.
Benninghoff and Dush emphasized that the event aims to help prevent identity theft, which can lead to serious financial and legal issues if not addressed. In addition to document shredding, the event will also collect non-perishable food donations for local food banks.
For more information about the shredding event, residents can contact Representative Kerry Benninghoff or Senator Cris Dush.
