Erie Insurance has been experiencing a company-wide network outage since Sunday, June 8, impacting agency operations across several states. The outage began after the company’s information security team detected abnormal activity on its network on Saturday, June 7. Upon identifying the issue, Erie immediately shut down its system to protect its data and continues to work on mitigating the outage with the help of law enforcement and cybersecurity experts.
The outage has affected agencies that work with Erie Insurance, including Wert Insurance Agency Inc. in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. In a statement released on June 11, Wert Insurance Agency Inc. informed its clients that while Erie’s systems were down, other insurance carriers they represented were operating normally. The agency assured clients that it was open during normal business hours and would make every effort to provide customer service despite the outage.
Erie Insurance has provided some alternatives for its policyholders during this period. Those needing to make a claim can contact their local agent or Erie’s First Notice of Loss team at 800-367-3743. The company’s Customer Care service is also available at 800-458-0811 to assist policyholders. Erie has warned its customers not to respond to unsolicited phone calls or emails requesting payments and to be cautious about sharing personal information during this time.
The insurance company has not provided a timeline for when its systems will be restored. Updates on the outage will be shared as more information becomes available.
