Air India Plane Crash: Insurers Ease Claim Rules for Families of Victims
In the aftermath of the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, three of India’s major life insurance providers – Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance, and HDFC Life – have announced special measures to expedite claim settlements for the families of the victims.
Simplified Claim Procedures
LIC has stated that it will accept alternative documents as proof of death, including any government record or compensation document issued by the Centre, state, or airline, even if a formal death certificate is not available. The insurer has also committed to proactively reaching out to the families of the victims to quickly settle claims and reduce their hardship.

Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance has established a dedicated claims settlement desk and simplified its procedures to prioritize claims from the affected families. In cases where a death certificate is not available, the company will accept certificates issued by hospitals or municipal bodies to initiate the claims process. Nominees can contact the insurer through its toll-free number, email, or at any of its 596 branches.
HDFC Life has also relaxed its documentation requirements, stating that it will not insist on a death certificate for processing claims related to the crash.
These measures aim to provide relief to the families of the victims during a difficult time, ensuring that they receive the financial support they are entitled to in a timely manner.
