On June 30, 2025, authorities in Milan took swift action to clear the area around the Hadid Tower, part of the CityLife redevelopment project, following the partial collapse of a large banner installed atop Assicurazioni Generali SpA’s headquarters. The insurer confirmed that the incident resulted in no injuries and no damage to nearby structures. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the banner’s failure.
The banner, situated at the summit of the 170-meter skyscraper, was visibly distorted and appeared to be leaning against the upper levels of the building. As a precautionary measure, employees were directed to work from home. Emergency crews cordoned off the vicinity to restrict public access. This incident occurred during a period of high temperatures in Milan, with the heat rising to 36°C (96.8°F).
Italian media outlets have suggested a possible connection between the structural failure and the ongoing heatwave, although the fire services have not issued any formal statements regarding the collapse. The Hadid Tower, one of three skyscrapers anchoring the business district within the CityLife project, accommodates approximately 3,900 employees and serves as Generali’s Milan headquarters. The building, completed in 2017 and officially opened in 2018, features flexible office spaces designed to meet the insurer’s operational needs.
In unrelated news, Generali reported an 8.9% increase in its operating result for the first quarter of 2025, reaching €2.07 billion. This growth was supported by contributions from all business segments, with notable improvements in property and casualty (P&C) operations.
