Ardonagh Group Secures $2.5 Billion Investment
The Ardonagh Group has completed a US$2.5 billion equity investment round led by US-based private equity firm Stone Point Capital. This significant financial backing values Ardonagh at US$14 billion and brings Stone Point in as a major shareholder alongside existing investors Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP), HPS Investment Partners (HPS), and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).
The investment is designed to support Ardonagh’s long-term growth strategy, particularly in the global property and casualty insurance market. The funds will be allocated towards both organic initiatives and mergers and acquisitions across its diverse platform of businesses. These businesses operate in wholesale, retail, and specialist distribution across multiple regions, including the UK, Europe, the United States, Asia-Pacific, and other key markets.
Ardonagh plans to direct the capital towards enhancing its technology and data capabilities, including initiatives like Ardonagh Intelligence. This project aims to improve operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making through machine learning and data enrichment tools. The investment round also saw co-investment interest from institutions connected to Stone Point, MDP, and HPS, highlighting continued investor demand for exposure to the insurance distribution sector.
Formed in 2017 through the merger of several UK insurance businesses, Ardonagh has grown into an international broking group that places approximately US$18 billion in gross written premium annually. The company’s operations span the full insurance distribution chain. The recent equity raise follows a series of significant transactions and structural changes in 2024, including the merger of Ardonagh’s personal lines business with Markerstudy and the AU$2.3 billion acquisition of Australia’s PSC Insurance Group.
The investment enhances Ardonagh’s financial flexibility, supporting its ability to scale existing operations while entering new markets. Stone Point joins a consortium of institutional investors backing Ardonagh’s growth ambitions, which include further expansion and strategic acquisitions in the insurance distribution sector.
