    Time Off

    Employees enjoy:

    • Generous vacation and sick leave

Team members also receive overtime compensation when responding to declared disasters, recognizing the extra effort needed during critical times.

    Part-Time Employees

Benefits eligibility for reservists (part-time staff) is established by the time deployed or in a paid status. Find out more about reservists’ roles and benefits.

    Work-Life Balance

Recognizing the necessity of a healthy work-life balance, FEMA provides family-friendly health and wellness benefits. These initiatives promote flexibility and peace of mind.

    Telework Opportunities

Our policies support telework, offering staff the flexibility to work remotely, access IT resources, and collaborate with teams, whether in the office or elsewhere. It’s about getting the job done, no matter the location.

    Retirement

We offer the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). This retirement plan integrates:

    1. Basic Retirement Benefit (Annuity)
    2. Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), a 401(k)-style plan with a range of investment choices and government-matching contributions.
    3. Social Security

For those covered under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS), check OPM.gov for relevant information.

    Training and Career Development

We prioritize employee growth. We provide a variety of training and professional development avenues. FEMA’s Education Knowledge Center, along with the Emergency Management Institute (EMI), delivers in-person training and access to a multitude of e-learning options in:

    • Management
    • Leadership Development
    • Project Management
    • IT

Our development programs provide current and future leaders with the tools and opportunities needed to succeed.

    Survivor Benefits

Survivor benefits may be provided to eligible family members of deceased active federal employees. If you’re reporting a FEMA employee’s death, we extend our deepest condolences. Benefits may be available to surviving spouses, children, and former spouses depending on the circumstances. A benefits counselor will provide necessary information. Contact benefits staff via email: [email protected], including the following:
