Markerstudy Insurance Group Modernizes Data Centers, Boosts Efficiency and Sustainability

LONDON, Feb. 25, 2025 – Markerstudy Insurance Group, one of the UK’s fastest-growing providers of general insurance services, has modernized its data center infrastructure using Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Data Center Solutions. This strategic move has enabled Markerstudy to improve the efficiency and sustainability of its digital infrastructure while meeting the challenges associated with integrating multiple technology systems following a series of acquisitions.

Partnering with Schneider Electric’s EcoXpert partner, on365, Markerstudy implemented the EcoStruxure Data Centre Solutions, leading to greater control over critical IT and network environments.

This has helped the company monitor and manage its systems for increased efficiency and reduced emissions related to data processing and storage.

    Modernization Strategy

Markerstudy’s modernization strategy began in 2012 with the design and build of a data center at its Chesterfield contact center, employing Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Row Data Centre solution and InRow DX cooling units. In this solution, the aim was to maximize energy efficiency and minimize downtime. In 2023, on365 replaced the legacy electrical equipment with a new main substation transformer and primary switchboard, incorporating IoT-enabled components for enhanced monitoring and management capabilities. This system is designed to support the integration of renewable energy and EV chargers.

    Expanded Capabilities

To meet its expanding capacity requirements, Markerstudy refreshed the technology at its Tunbridge Wells headquarters data center, upgrading its cooling systems. The site also uses Schneider Electric Galaxy VS UPSs to enhance resiliency. Additionally, on365 has improved the resilience of Markerstudy’s edge computing environments across its regional offices, implementing Galaxy VS UPS equipment at its Manchester office and APC Smart-UPS UPS units across other sites.

Markerstudy has also adopted Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure IT Expert DCIM solution, coupled with a digital services program from on365, which provides real-time monitoring, remote management, and maintenance for its critical infrastructure.

    Focus on Sustainability

Markerstudy is committed to sustainability, aiming to reduce energy usage and carbon emissions across its operations. The group has been collaborating with on365, Schneider Electric, and Net Zero consultancy Energise, and mapping its operations to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG), which earned it a Bronze sustainability rating from EcoVadis.

The improvements and standardization on Schneider Electric technologies allow Markerstudy to monitor and manage its IT and network environments more effectively, reducing emissions from data processing and storage. The energy savings from the new transformer and switchboard supports the sustainability ambitions.

“The Markerstudy board has consistently supported our investment in more efficient data center physical infrastructure, enabling the IT Team to improve the PUE of our data centres, and accommodate our technology requirements as the company continues its growth trajectory,” said Nick Ovenden, Chief Technology Officer at Markerstudy Insurance.

“From day one we’ve set out to work as an extension of the Markerstudy Insurance Group,” said Carl Richardson, Technology Manager at on365. “By understanding their aims and objectives and immersing ourselves in the culture of their technical team, we now deliver a nationwide service which supports the design and deployment of efficient and reliable infrastructure, and the delivery of key insurance products for its UK customers.”

“Today’s data centres and IT technologies are vital to support the UK’s thriving enterprise sector,” said Mark Yeeles, Vice President, Secure Power division, Schneider Electric UK and Ireland. “Our work together with on365 showcases the important role of data centres as critical national infrastructure and demonstrates how our ecosystem can ensure customers like Markerstudy remain at the forefront of UK Insurance services while achieving their sustainability goals.”
