Free Shredding Events Coming to North Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Residents in several North Alabama cities will have the opportunity to safely shred sensitive documents and recycle electronics at a series of free events in April and May. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of North Alabama, in partnership with Family Security Credit Union, is organizing the “Spring Shred Days” to help residents protect themselves against identity theft and promote environmentally friendly practices.

“We are proud to host our annual spring shred days as part of our ongoing commitment to scam prevention and fraud education,” said Karen Reeves, President/CEO of the BBB. “These events not only help protect personal information by securely destroying sensitive documents, but they also foster awareness around identity theft prevention. We invite everyone to participate and take advantage of this free service to promote safer and more informed communities across North Alabama.”

    The events are scheduled for:

    • Florence Shred Day: Friday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum, 702 Veterans Drive, Florence, AL 35630.

    • Huntsville Shred Day: Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Calhoun Community College, 102 Wynn Drive NW, Huntsville, AL 35805. Electronic recycling for items under 100 lbs will also be available.

    • Decatur Shred Day: Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at BComing.Church, 607 14th Street SE, Decatur, AL 35601. This event will include document shredding, electronic recycling (under 40 lbs, with a fee for TVs), and a Drug Take Back initiative.

    • Cullman Shred Day: Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the vacant lot across from Hobby Lobby, Broadway Avenue SW, Cullman, AL 35055. Similar services will be offered, including electronic recycling and a Drug Take Back program.

Participants are limited to three kitchen-size bags or three file storage boxes per vehicle. Only paper documents will be accepted; all plastic, metal, and binder materials must be removed beforehand. Shredding services will continue until the trucks reach full capacity.
