A shooting incident on Friday morning in Lake Oswego appears to have targeted the residence of Chip Terhune, the CEO of the SAIF Corporation. According to police and public records, the shooting took place on Melrose Place, where Terhune, the chief executive of Oregon’s nonprofit worker’s compensation insurance company, resides.
Police reported that the shooting caused “minor damage” to the home, specifically impacting the front door, and fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Lauren Casler, a SAIF spokesperson, confirmed in an email that the company was “aware of the incident at our president and CEO’s home.” While SAIF has declined to provide specific details, the company stated that it is collaborating with law enforcement and “taking steps” to ensure the safety of its employees. Willamette Week initially reported on the shooting.
In an internal email addressed to SAIF employees, which was obtained by The Oregonian/OregonLive, Terhune personally confirmed the shooting at his residence. “At around 4 a.m., I heard what I thought were rocks thrown at my house, but discovered they were gunshots,” he wrote in the email. “An investigation is underway, and we don’t know if this was specifically targeted to me.”
A post on the social media platform NextDoor, purportedly authored by a resident at Terhune’s address, claimed that three bullets penetrated the windows of the home’s front door. The post also mentioned that an eyewitness observed an individual dressed in black attire and wearing a ski mask fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting occurred. The police are urging anyone who might have information related to the shooting to contact them at (503) 635-0232. Chip Terhune was not immediately available for comment.
