Aventum Names Jonathan Butcher as Non-Executive Chairman
Aventum, a global specialty insurance group, has announced the appointment of Jonathan Butcher as its non-executive chairman. Butcher, a veteran of the Lloyd’s market, brings 35 years of experience in the London market and the (re)insurance industry.
Butcher’s previous role was as CEO and underwriting director at Novae Syndicates, where he spent 14 years. Novae Syndicates was sold to AXIS for over $600 million in 2017. His career has included 13 years at Lloyd’s and 11 years at the Sturge Group PLC, where he held senior underwriting positions across multiple classes of business, specializing in property and casualty.
Butcher’s experience extends beyond his executive roles. He joined the board of the Lloyd’s Market Association in 2015 and has served as a non-executive director at Rokstone since 2022. During his tenure at Rokstone, he contributed to introducing management and operational improvements that supported the company’s growth.
“[Butcher] has had a strong and illustrious career and has proven to be a highly capable guiding influence during a period of sustained fast growth for Rokstone over the last few years,” said Aventum CEO David Bearman.
Aventum, which trades over $1.86 billion in gross written premium annually through its 17 global offices, offers specialist and niche (re)insurance solutions globally. The group operates through two primary arms: Consilium, its international (re)insurance broking arm, and Rokstone, its global MGA (Managing General Agent) operation.
“Aventum has a dynamic management team – highly creative, daring and intelligent with an impressive work ethic; a force to be reckoned with,” Butcher commented. He will work closely with the board and leadership team to aid the group’s continued expansion.
Butcher added, “The group has overt and seemingly limitless ambition and has a rare combination of all the right ingredients to succeed. I have been impressed with how Aventum invests with confidence in its people, technology and infrastructure.”
