RALEIGH, N.C. — A Virginia woman has been arrested by Raleigh police on charges connected to the theft of over 30 driver’s licenses and passports, according to warrants released Thursday.

Kimberly Michele Kretzer Mason, 52, of Portsmouth, Virginia, is accused of possessing 31 different driver’s licenses from various states and three U.S. passport cards belonging to other individuals. The Raleigh Police Department’s warrants state that she allegedly used these documents for personal gain.

Mason faces 34 counts of identity theft, categorized as felony offenses. She made her initial appearance in Wake County Court on Friday and requested that her case remain in Wake County. She cited a desire to avoid extradition to Virginia or Pennsylvania, where she is facing similar charges.

Court records show Mason was given a total of $700,000 secured bond. Raleigh police indicated that Mason’s arrest occurred after officers responded to a reported identity theft incident at the Wake Inn, located at 3120 New Bern Avenue.

Also arrested in connection with the incident was 54-year-old Toby Lee Porter, also of Portsmouth, Virginia, according to police. A warrant indicates that Porter is accused of possessing two driver’s licenses belonging to other people, allegedly using them to book a motel. Additionally, he is charged with possessing counterfeit IDs and bank cards.

Porter is charged with two counts of identity theft and three counts of aiding and abetting forgery, also felony offenses. Porter was scheduled to appear in Wake County Court on Friday; however, a deputy informed CBS 17 that he refused to appear. Court records show Porter had a secured bond of $150,000. Authorities have stated that no additional information is available as of Friday morning.
