Lagos State Police Command Begins Enforcement of Mandatory Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance
In accordance with the directive issued by Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, the Lagos State Police Command has initiated the enforcement of mandatory Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance effective February 1, 2025. This directive requires all vehicle owners within Lagos State to possess a minimum of valid Third-Party Insurance coverage.

Vehicle owners who do not currently have any form of insurance are advised to obtain it immediately. The Nigeria Police Force has issued a warning to all vehicle owners and operators regarding non-compliance with this essential regulation. Failure to comply will result in strict enforcement actions, which may include fines, penalties, or both.

This initiative aims to ensure that vehicle owners adhere to the stipulated insurance requirements, thereby safeguarding themselves and other road users.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, psc(+) mnips, has instructed officers involved in this enforcement exercise to conduct their duties professionally, courteously, and firmly. He also cautioned that any form of incivility towards members of the public will not be tolerated.
