How to Check Your Vehicle Insurance Status

If you can’t locate your vehicle insurance policy documents, or simply don’t remember the details, there are several convenient ways to check your policy status online. The internet has made it easier than ever to access your vehicle insurance information. This guide provides a detailed overview of how to check and track your vehicle insurance status online.

You might need to check your vehicle insurance status in two main situations:

    • After an accident where you don’t have your policy details.
    • When you’ve lost your insurance policy document.

Methods to Check Vehicle Insurance Status Online

The following are the easiest ways to check your car or bike policy details online:

    • Insurer’s website or mobile application
    • Insurance Information Bureau (IIB)
    • VAHAN – Ministry of Road Transport and Highways
    • Parivahan Sewa
    • Regional Transport Office (RTO)

It’s important to stay up-to-date with your vehicle’s insurance policy to renew it on time. This helps avoid policy lapses, higher renewal costs, and claim rejections. If you’re unsure about your car or bike’s insurance policy details, you can quickly check its status.

Check Vehicle Insurance Details Through Insurance Providers

The simplest method is to visit the official website of your insurance provider or use their mobile app. This approach allows you to check your vehicle insurance details easily. Most insurers require the vehicle’s registration number.

Check Vehicle Insurance Details Via IIB Web Portal

The Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) web portal enables you to check vehicle insurance details. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI maintains crucial data related to insurance policies. Here’s how to proceed:

    1. Log in to the official IIB web portal.
    2. Submit required information, such as your name, mobile number, e-mail ID, and vehicle registration number.
    3. Your vehicle’s policy details will appear after submission.

If you can’t find your insurance details using the registration number, you can search using the vehicle’s engine or chassis number details. Please note that details are available for policies issued after April 1, 2010. New insurance policies less than two months old might not appear in the IIB database.

Check Vehicle Insurance Details Via Parivahan Sewa

Parivahan Sewa is a government website maintained by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It holds data for all insured vehicles across the country. Here’s how to check your vehicle insurance:

    1. Log in to the official Parivahan Sewa website.
    2. Click on the “Informational Services Tab.”
    3. Go to the “know your vehicle” menu.
    4. You’ll be redirected to the Vahan NR e-services page.
    5. Enter your registered mobile number and the verification code, then click “search vehicle.”
    6. The car details, including the insurance expiry date, will be displayed.

Check Vehicle Insurance Details Via VAHAN

You can also use the VAHAN website, which is part of e-governance of the National Transport Project. It contains comprehensive vehicle information, including insurance policy details. Follow these steps:

    1. Visit the Vahan e-services 4.0 portal.
    2. Go to “know your vehicle details.”
    3. Log in by entering your mobile number and creating a new account.
    4. Enter your vehicle’s registration number and click “search vehicle.”
    5. Your vehicle details, including your car insurance policy, will appear.

Check Vehicle Insurance Details Via the Regional Transport Office (RTO)

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) registers every vehicle in India, and you can use it to check your vehicle’s insurance policy details and expiry date, along with other vehicle information. Here’s how:

    1. Visit your state RTO’s official website or visit their office.
    2. Click “online services for citizens.”
    3. Select the tab “vehicle related online services.”
    4. Select the option of “Vahan citizen services.”
    5. Fill in the details of your RTO, where your car is registered, along with the registration number, and other relevant details.
