Pets are considered family members, and their health is a top priority for many owners. When accidents or illnesses strike, veterinary bills can quickly become substantial. Just as people invest in health insurance for themselves and their human family, pet insurance is becoming an increasingly popular option to avoid unexpected financial burdens.
Pet insurance is experiencing significant growth in the United States. According to the North American Pet Health Insurance Association, the total number of insured pets grew by 17.1% during 2023. This growth resulted in more than 5.6 million insured animals nationwide. Specifically, 14.8% of dogs and 26.2% of cats were insured in 2023. Dogs are the majority of insured pets, accounting for 78.6% of the total.
