On March 6, 2025, the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged Kenneth MacKay, a 63-year-old from Hastings, with several offenses after a traffic stop.
Around 3:20 p.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Concession Road 13 when a pickup truck was observed traveling at 87 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The in-car Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system then alerted the officer to a suspended driver. The OPP confirmed the driver was prohibited from driving.
As a result, MacKay was charged with speeding, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and operation while prohibited. The vehicle was impounded for 180 days. MacKay is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
The Northumberland OPP reiterates its commitment to public safety. The detachment works proactively and innovatively in partnership with local communities, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in building safe environments.
