Ford and Partners Unlock New Services Through Connected Vehicle Data

COLOGNE, Germany, November 11, 2020 – Ford is working with CARUSO and HIGH MOBILITY to offer drivers more personalized services through connected vehicle data. This collaboration will allow approved third-party businesses to access vehicle-generated data, with driver consent, to create innovative solutions.

Ford believes that this move to share vehicle data using an open platform can drive new business opportunities to offer tailored services including usage-based insurance, predictive maintenance and smart roadside recovery.

Owners could potentially benefit from individually tailored products and services such as:

    • Usage-based insurance
    • Predictive vehicle maintenance
    • Smart roadside recovery

The agreements with data marketplaces CARUSO and HIGH MOBILITY will provide third-party service providers with secure access to Ford vehicle data.

“As a leader in connected mobility, Ford has long supported the vision of how vehicle data can drive new products and services for its customers,” said Mark Harvey, director, Enterprise Connectivity, Ford of Europe. “These partnerships further demonstrate our commitment to sharing vehicle-generated data in a fair and secure manner so that vehicle owners and businesses can fully benefit from the opportunities that connectivity enables.”

CARUSO and HIGH MOBILITY will each act as a “neutral server” – an independent online data platform that provides secure and compliant access to vehicle-generated data for third-party service providers. This access allows third-party providers to develop value-added, individually tailored services for Ford vehicle owners. These services may include predictive maintenance, roadside assistance, and usage-based insurance—all benefiting owners by making use of data such as warning codes or GPS location.

Ford owners will retain full control over their data. Before any vehicle data is shared, owners must opt in, and they can control with whom and for which purposes their data is shared. Owners also retain the ability to opt out of data sharing at any time.

Ford has recently announced that all new vehicle models sold in Europe will be equipped with FordPass Connect as standard. Ford also provides a range of complimentary connected vehicle services to its European customers. These free services enable drivers to control and monitor key features in their vehicles through the FordPass app and provide them the ability to share data with third parties via the CARUSO and HIGH MOBILITY “neutral servers”.
