Hamilton Global Specialty Announces Leadership Shifts, Eyes US Property Expansion

Hamilton Global Specialty, an underwriting platform of Hamilton Insurance Group, has revealed a series of strategic changes, including the appointment of Sinead Cormican as the new active underwriter for Syndicate 4000. The promotions and expansion signal the company’s commitment to developing its internal talent and broadening its presence, particularly in the US property excess and surplus (E&S) market.

Cormican’s promotion, effective April 1, 2025, pending regulatory approval, builds on her decade-long tenure with Hamilton. She has served as deputy active underwriter since 2020 and previously led the Property Direct and Facultative (D&F) business. Cormican will now report to Miles Osorio, Hamilton’s chief underwriting officer.

Alongside Cormican’s appointment, Sukh Chana and Mark Johnson have been named joint deputy active underwriters. Chana will continue as head of financial institutions, a role he has held since Hamilton acquired Pembroke in 2019. Johnson remains head of property D&F, bringing two decades of industry experience, including ten years at Hamilton.

The shifts follow the planned retirement of Trevor Ormes, deputy active underwriter and head of professional lines. Ormes is retiring on April 30, 2025, after a 40-year career in the insurance industry.

These appointments come amid wider leadership changes at Hamilton. In February, Mike Thorp became head of space and Chris Golder was named head of treaty. Thorp, with a decade at Hamilton, played a key role in launching its space underwriting business. Golder, who joined in 2023, has 16 years of insurance sector experience.

Hamilton, which underwrites through Lloyd’s Syndicate 4000, Hamilton Insurance DAC in Dublin, and Hamilton Americas, has been focused on expanding its specialty lines business. The company reported significant financial results at the end of 2024, with $2.4 billion in gross premiums written and $2.3 billion in shareholders’ equity.

Key lines of insurance offered by Hamilton include:

    • US property insurance: This targets commercial excess and surplus (E&S) risks, with a focus on further developing property insurance offerings within the US market.
    • Professional lines insurance: Coverage against claims such as negligence, copyright breaches, and defamation, designed for various professionals, including engineers, lawyers, and miscellaneous businesses.
    • Financial institutions insurance: This offers comprehensive coverage like crime, professional indemnity, and directors & officers liability insurance for a wide range of financial institutions, including asset managers, banks, and insurance companies.
    • Property direct and facultative (D&F) insurance: This covers fire and allied perils, business interruption, and natural catastrophes for risks ranging from real estate to complex industrial sectors, such as railroads and mining.
    • Fine art & specie insurance: Coverage for fine art, bullion, classic cars, and other valuable collectibles, serving clients from major banks to individual collectors.
