CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Kingsville Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a woman accused of targeting elderly residents in a life insurance policy scam.
Investigators report that the woman is going door-to-door in Kingsville, impersonating an employee of a life insurance company to defraud vulnerable members of the community. The suspect has stolen between $20 and $200 from several unsuspecting residents who are accustomed to making cash payments. Police are working to determine the total amount she’s taken.
“It’s a degree of theft, it’s exploitation of the elderly,” stated a representative from the Kingsville Police Department. “It is a serious offense of the felony, I believe it’s a 3rd degree felony.”
An anonymous community member expressed disappointment, saying, “I think it’s really disappointing that people could really go and steal from the elderly…especially knowing that person like I did not expect that from somebody that I knew personally and was so close to.”
Authorities know of at least six victims, but believe there may be more. “At this time we know of at least 6 people who have been scammed by this female and we believe there’s possibly more,” said Kingsville PD. “If you feel you’re a victim or you witnessed or you know of somebody who’s a victim we’re gonna be taking statements and doing interviews.”
Police say the woman has been seen driving a red or maroon 4-door car.
