Nurse Arrested, Accused of Killing Highland Woman for Fake Life Insurance
Lone Peak Police Department in Highland, Utah, have arrested a nurse from Santaquin, Utah, charging her with multiple felonies in connection with the death of a woman under her care. Authorities allege the nurse, Meggan Randall Sundwall, 47, intentionally administered insulin to 38-year-old Kacee Lyn Terry with the intent of gaining access to a supposed life insurance policy.

Court documents state that Sundwall, a licensed registered nurse, believed she was the beneficiary of a $1.5 million life insurance policy allegedly held by Terry. However, Terry’s sister, Kylee Clark, has confirmed that no such policy ever existed.
“Meggan had been trying to kill Kacee, with insulin, for years,” Clark told the Daily Herald. She claims she repeatedly informed Sundwall that the life insurance policy was a fabrication, but the nurse refused to believe it.
The investigation began on August 12, 2024, when Lone Peak Police Department officers and first responders were dispatched to a medical emergency at Terry’s home in Highland. Terry’s uncle reported finding her unconscious and struggling to breathe. In a 911 call, the uncle told dispatchers that Sundwall, who was present at the scene, claimed Terry had been in that condition for several hours. The uncle described Terry as having “major, major health issues” and said it “sounds like she’s drowning.”
Sundwall reportedly told Terry’s uncle that Terry had a “do not resuscitate” (DNR) order and did not want to be hospitalized. However, authorities never found a DNR order, nor any documents naming Sundwall as Terry’s power of attorney.
Paramedics at the scene discovered a diabetic needle, even though Terry was not diabetic. Terry was rushed to a hospital in Lehi, where her blood sugar level registered a dangerously low 14. A blood sugar level below 40 is considered life-threatening. Family members told doctors that Terry had terminal cancer but was improving, a claim refuted by Terry’s primary physician. Terry never regained consciousness and was ultimately declared brain dead. She died three days later, on August 15, 2024.
An autopsy revealed no cancer or other health problems. The Office of the Medical Examiner attributed Terry’s death to the combined effects of Promethazine, probable exogenous insulin, and other drugs, but the manner of death was listed as undetermined.
Terry’s obituary described her as a sociable person who maintained close friendships from her Lone Peak High School years. Prior to her death, she and Sundwall had supposedly been friends. According to the initial investigation, the two were friends. Detectives found text messages, including communications dating back to 2019, on their social media accounts, showing that both worked at the same disability service provider, although timelines are unknown. More than 20,000 texts between the two were later discovered by investigators.
Court documents allege some messages included conversations about Sundwall’s financial problems and how her issues would be solved by Terry’s death and the subsequent life insurance payout. Detectives also identified that Sundwall searched for the life insurance policy after Terry’s death through calls and emails. Authorities believe Sundwall tried to hide evidence by deleting around 900 texts from her phone.
Sundwall was booked into the Utah County Jail on Thursday and is being held without bail on suspicion of aggravated murder and obstruction of justice.
