Southern Cross Pet Insurance Announces ‘The Pawsies’ Awards
Southern Cross Pet Insurance (SCPI) has announced the launch of ‘The Pawsies’ awards, a campaign designed to celebrate the remarkable bond between humans and their pets, as well as the dedicated veterinary teams who care for them. The awards are open to all New Zealanders and their beloved dogs, cats, and the veterinary clinics that provide them with exceptional care.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with TBWANew Zealand, MBM, and Breakout Room, offers a platform to honor outstanding pets and the veterinary professionals who contribute to their well-being.
“Our dogs and cats bring us so much joy, so it’s time we had a way to truly celebrate the gift they give us,” says Melodie Vickars, Chief Marketing Officer of SCPI and a proud cat parent. “We’ve launched The Southern Cross Pet Insurance Pawsies to help showcase New Zealand’s finest felines and precious pups, and to find the vet clinic team which is doing everything it takes to help our pets live their best lives.”
Supported by a comprehensive multi-media campaign, including radio, digital, OOH (Out-of-Home), and sponsored content, ‘The Pawsies’ aims to engage pet owners across New Zealand, encouraging them to nominate their cherished companions and the veterinary clinics that provide them with essential care.
“We’re looking for the most characterful dog and cat in Aotearoa,” Vickars explains. “Personality will be key to our winners’ success, so make sure when you nominate your ngeru/cat or kurī/dog, that you choose a picture and craft a description which best captures their special personality.”
“When it comes to nominations for the outstanding veterinary clinic team award, we want to hear about how they have helped your pet live its best pet life – we’re their biggest fans, now we want to hear their stories and celebrate their mahi.”
The winners of ‘Dog of the Year’ and ‘Cat of the Year’ will each receive a prize package that includes a custom Pickle’s Pawtrait, a $500 pet store voucher, one-on-one virtual training with Mark Vette, the opportunity to be featured on a billboard, and, of course, an exclusive ‘Pawsies’ trophy.

The winning veterinary clinic team will have a ‘kit out your kitchen’ pack for their lunchroom, special award pins, and a ‘Pawsies’ trophy to display in their practice.
Vickars added: “Kate Winslet may keep her Oscar in her downstairs loo, but we reckon The Pawsies trophy will take a rather more salubrious pride of place in three lucky locations for best dog, best cat and best vet team.”
