FWJ Insurance, a local health insurance business specializing in Medicare, held its grand opening in collaboration with the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday. The event, which took place at the company’s office in the One Killeen Center, included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a raffle.
FWJ Insurance is owned and operated by Freeman Witherspoon, a 24-year military veteran. “When I was in the military, I was a medic,” said Witherspoon. “I wanted to continue to stay close to the military community and health care.” Witherspoon explained that he started the company approximately two years ago and recently relocated to the One Killeen Center location about six months ago, after previously operating downtown. He described Wednesday’s event as a relaunch to the community.
“We want to educate people, and do it in a way that is easily understood,” Witherspoon said, explaining that the company provides a valuable service and that many people are seeking assistance.
Witherspoon, when asked about his motivation, stated the company’s aim is to help people navigate the complexities of health insurance. “It’s tough and time to educate customers,” he explained. During these consultations, he provides information about insurance and is available to answer any questions individuals may have. “The best way to help is by educating,” he explained.
Witherspoon came to Killeen in 2009 when he was in the military, and decided to stay after retiring. “I knew how much I loved the area of Central Texas,” he said.
Regarding the move to Killeen, he described his desire to serve the community after retiring by helping people with their health insurance needs. “I know there’s nothing difficult about being an insurance agent,” he said. “I’m just trying to be an asset to the community.”
