A coalition of insurance and restoration companies is launching the North American Green Council to promote sustainability across the property claims supply chain. The initiative will debut on Earth Day, April 22, with a webinar titled ‘Sustainability in Insurance Claims: Can’t Afford to Do It, or Can’t Afford Not To?’.
Key Details of the Webinar
The virtual event begins at 11:00 a.m. MDT and will feature speakers from across the sector, including:
- Jamie Madill, director of Sustainability at Pro-Claim Group
- Meredith Arnold, managing partner at PuroClean Halifax
- Bill Moorman, senior vice president, Western Operations, at First Onsite Property Restoration
The session will be moderated by Maureen Cureton, vice president of Climate and Sustainability at EcoClaim.
Purpose of the North American Green Council
The council, incubated by EcoClaim, will serve as a collaborative platform for insurers, contractors, claims professionals, service providers, and other stakeholders. It aims to provide members with tools and resources to support carbon reduction efforts, meet new regulatory reporting requirements – such as Scope 3 emissions disclosures – and respond to evolving expectations around environmental performance.
“Scope 3 emissions from property claims are among the insurance industry’s biggest blind spots,” Cureton said. “The council was born from a shared recognition that we need to work together to drive climate leadership in claims.”
Industry Context
The initiative comes amid growing attention on environmental sustainability in the insurance sector. A 2024 joint report from Howden and Boston Consulting Group estimated that achieving global net-zero goals could require $10 trillion in new insurance capacity by 2030 to support $19 trillion in infrastructure and clean energy projects. Meanwhile, academic research published in The Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance suggests consumers are increasingly considering sustainability factors when selecting insurance products.

Despite these developments, a 2023 Deloitte report indicated that claims handling remains one of the least developed areas for sustainability integration. While many insurers have introduced environmental, social and governance (ESG) frameworks in underwriting and investment processes, claims-related emissions and materials management have received less attention.
Participants in the council include insurers and vendors such as Federated Insurance, Northbridge Insurance, Clean Claims, First Onsite, Pro-Claim Group, and Specialty Program Group Canada.
