Argo Group Announces Leadership Changes
Argo Group International Holdings, a specialty insurance underwriter, has named Chris Donahue as its new chief executive officer. Donahue, who previously served as the company’s chief financial officer since November 2023, steps into the CEO role, replacing Jessica Buss. Buss had led Argo since the same date.
“Chris has been integral to the transformation of Argo into a U.S.-focused specialty property and casualty company,” said Jonathan Bayer, chair of Argo’s board of directors.
Alongside the CEO appointment, Argo has also named David Chan as chief financial officer. Chan, who was previously the company’s chief accounting officer since 2022, brings significant experience, having held senior positions at AmTrust Financial Services, Moody’s Investor Services, and PwC.
Strategic Focus and Leadership Transition
The recent leadership changes come as part of Argo’s larger strategic shift to streamline operations and strengthen its position in the U.S. specialty insurance market.
The company has been undergoing significant restructuring, which includes shedding non-core international business to focus on domestic growth. In August 2021, Susan Comparato was appointed chief administrative officer, and Stephen Perrella was named chief claims officer in January 2025, further shaping the leadership team during this transformation.
Adapting to Industry Dynamics
The leadership transition occurs as Argo responds to evolving industry dynamics. These dynamics include regulatory changes, rising litigation costs, and shifting risks that are prevalent in the specialty insurance sector.
With Donahue at the helm, Argo is expected to continue refining its underwriting approach while pursuing growth opportunities. Jonathan Bayer noted, “We greatly appreciate Jessica’s leadership through Argo’s transformation and her many valuable contributions.”
As Argo moves forward under new leadership, the company’s strategic focus remains on expanding its specialty offerings while maintaining financial discipline in a competitive market.
