Key Leadership Appointments Announced in the Insurance Sector
Several key players in the specialty insurance and reinsurance markets—AXA XL, Incline P&C Group, and Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers (RSUM)—have recently announced significant leadership appointments. These moves are designed to strengthen their market positions and enhance their capabilities.
AXA XL Appoints Simon Rees as Chief Underwriting Officer
AXA XL has appointed Simon Rees as its new chief underwriting officer, North America Programs. Rees, previously the chief reserving actuary for the Americas, will assume his new role on April 1, reporting to Tim Whisler, wholesale solutions, Americas.
Rees joined AXA XL in 2017 and has progressed through the company. He served as head of reinsurance reserving for its international and London region and later became deputy chief actuary in the Americas before his promotion to chief actuary in 2022. Rees brings over two decades of experience to the role, having worked with both startups and multinational corporations, and has led global teams.
Whisler noted that Rees’s skill set would be invaluable to the company’s specialty program market. “His expertise will be instrumental in strengthening our existing partnerships and evaluating and onboarding new programs as we focus on growth in this important segment of our business,” Whisler said.
Thomas Wafer Joins Incline P&C Group Board
Incline P&C Group has elected Thomas Wafer as an independent director to the board of each of its insurance carriers. Wafer brings over 40 years of experience in the reinsurance and insurance industries. Most recently, he served as chairman of Willis Re/Gallagher Re North America, providing strategic guidance to the organization.
Wafer’s career includes senior roles such as president at Third Point Re (USA) Ltd. and president/chairman of Global Reinsurance at Alterra. He has also led operations at Harbor Point Re in the US and Bermuda and held positions at Chubb Re and Guy Carpenter Marsh & McLennan. Wafer will support Incline’s program management and risk solutions efforts and serve on the company carriers’ audit committee.
Eric Quinn Named President of RSUM
Ryan Specialty has appointed Eric Quinn as president of its specialty underwriting segment, Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers (RSUM). With this promotion, Miles Wuller, currently the chief executive of RSUM, will no longer hold the president title.
Quinn came to Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers through the 2020 acquisition of All Risks. Last year, he was promoted to executive vice president of Capital and Product Strategy for RSUM. Previously Quinn served as senior vice president and held leadership roles in capital and program management.
