Good Monday morning, Boulder!
Here’s your essential local news roundup for today.
Homeowners Insurance Crisis Worsens
The nationwide homeowners insurance crisis continues to impact Boulder residents. Many homeowners, even those with low wildfire risk, are losing their coverage, and those who can find replacement policies face significantly higher premiums. Some are seeing their premiums double or even triple, raising affordability concerns.
State lawmakers are exploring solutions, including a state-backed insurance option, and new fire risk modeling requirements. However, it remains to be seen whether these measures will be enough to provide relief for Boulder homeowners.
Skaggs to Lead Protest at NOAA Facility
Former U.S. Rep. David Skaggs is organizing a protest today outside the NOAA’s Boulder facility, which bears his name. The protest, scheduled for 11:45 a.m., is in response to recent layoffs at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other science agencies.
Skaggs is encouraging attendees to bring signs supporting federal scientists and civil servants.
