BYD is ramping up its year-end sales promotions, offering free vehicle insurance on several models from its Ocean lineup ahead of the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday.

Between December 26, 2024, and January 26, 2025, customers purchasing certain Ocean models will be eligible for free insurance, with a maximum value of RMB 5,000 (approximately $690), the company announced on Weibo. Further details are available at BYD dealerships.

The promotion encompasses both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models within the Ocean family. The Ocean lineup includes vehicles like the Seal, Sealion, Seagull, Dolphin, Frigate 07, Chaser 05, and the Song Plus series.

The move is strategically timed to capitalize on heightened vehicle sales leading up to the Chinese New Year holiday, which runs from January 28 to February 4, 2025.

BYD also recently introduced a temporary 11.5 percent discount on the Sealion 05 DM-i in China, reducing the starting price of this hybrid SUV to RMB 99,800 ($13,670) from RMB 112,800.

BYD’s NEV sales continue to climb. In November, BYD Group sold 506,804 new energy vehicles, including 504,003 passenger cars. The BYD-branded passenger cars saw strong sales, reaching 483,011 units in November, a 68.29 percent year-on-year increase and a 0.45 percent rise from October.

The Ocean lineup accounted for a substantial portion of sales, with 229,819 vehicles sold in November, marking a 52.30 percent year-on-year increase. The Dynasty lineup also performed well, selling 253,192 vehicles during the same period, an 86.01 percent year-on-year increase.

For the January-November period, BYD’s cumulative NEV sales reached 3,837,632 vehicles, representing a 40.25 percent year-on-year increase. BYD’s chief scientist, Lian Yubo, indicated earlier this month that the company is on track to achieve annual sales of about 4.25 million vehicles for 2024.
