WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA), Chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee on Federal Law Enforcement, has announced the launch of an investigation into ‘swatting’ attacks targeting conservatives.
Swatting involves making false reports to emergency services to provoke a large police or emergency response at a specific location, often a private residence.
“These swatting attacks are a dangerous form of harassment,” Chairman Higgins stated. “They not only endanger the lives of the targets, but also waste valuable resources that could be used for real emergencies.”
The Oversight Subcommittee will examine the frequency of these incidents, the perpetrators involved, and the response from law enforcement agencies. The committee aims to identify the motivations behind the attacks and develop strategies to prevent future incidents with the goal of protecting the safety and privacy of those affected.
