Charleston Woman Charged with Insurance Fraud After False Flooding Claim
A Charleston County woman has been charged with insurance fraud after allegedly filing a false claim for vehicle damage sustained during flooding in March. Kaitlyn Simone White, 24, was charged with presenting a false insurance claim valued between $2,000 and $10,000 on Tuesday, June 24.
According to the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), White purchased a car insurance policy on March 9, despite not having insurance previously. Later that month, she claimed her vehicle was ‘heavily damaged’ while driving through a flooded road on March 22. However, historical weather data showed no flooding on the date White claimed, though there was flooding in the area on March 9.

SLED’s investigation found that electronic records, license plate reader data, timesheet records from White’s employer, and mobile application data contradicted her statements. The evidence indicated that White was not at the location where she claimed the damage occurred. She allegedly attempted to file a claim for $7,642.67 in vehicle damages.
White was booked at the Charleston County jail on Tuesday and released later that day on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.
