Citizens Property Insurance Eyes Southside Move, Potentially Leaving Downtown Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, FL – Citizens Property Insurance Corp. is reportedly moving toward relocating its headquarters from downtown Jacksonville to the Southside of the city. News4JAX’s news partner, the Jacksonville Daily Record, announced that after reviewing seven bids for “turn-key” office space within Jacksonville, the state insurer has selected a property on Baypine Road.
The chosen site is the former Florida Coastal School of Law building, located at 8787 Baypine Road. This decision indicates a possible departure from Citizens’ current downtown offices situated in the 30-story high-rise at 301 W. Bay St.
Mayor Donna Deegan released a statement addressing the potential relocation of Citizens Property Insurance:
“The City of Jacksonville remains committed to making every reasonable effort to retain this anchor employer. I have spoken to Sheriff Waters, and we will work together to place a JSO stop station in the building for extra security. There is a window still open for Citizens Property Insurance to remain downtown. We are hopeful their Board of Directors will reevaluate this decision given the progress that’s been made, not only in terms of safety, but also the many exciting projects that are coming out of the ground.”
The City of Jacksonville has expressed a dedication to retaining Citizens. Mayor Deegan has assured efforts to keep the company downtown, including discussions about increased security measures. The city is optimistic that the Board of Directors will reassess their decision. Further details can be found at JaxDailyRecord.com.
