Citizens Property Insurance to Move Jacksonville Office from Downtown to Southside

The Citizens Property Insurance Board of Governors has approved the relocation of its Jacksonville office, currently located downtown, to a Southside location. The move, slated for 2026, will involve approximately 1,000 employees.

The decision, finalized on Wednesday, follows a staff recommendation that was issued last Friday. The board considered proposals from office building owners located in downtown and on the Southside of Jacksonville before making its selection.

Mayor Donna Deegan had previously voiced her support for keeping the Citizens office downtown, along with the JAX Chamber and other business leaders. After the board’s decision, Mayor Deegan released a statement. “We respect the decision and are glad these jobs will remain in Jacksonville,” she said. “Our work to attract more companies never stops. There are several significant projects in the pipeline that could add capital investment and employees to the immense progress being made downtown.”

Citizens will be moving into a five-story building located at 8787 Baypine Road, a site formerly occupied by the Florida Coastal School of Law before its closure. The board approved funding for a 10-year lease agreement.

“Citizens’ staff will proceed with the necessary steps to execute the lease agreement,” the organization stated. “The property, located at 8787 Baypine Road, best fits the goals and objectives for Citizens’ long-term operations in the city of Jacksonville.”

The matter was included on the consent agenda for the board meeting, thus no staff presentation or debate among board members was required.

Citizens Property Insurance Corp. was established in 2004 as a non-profit governmental entity. It acts as an insurer of last resort for property owners who are unable to obtain coverage in the private market. Jacksonville hosts the largest number of its employees.
