COAST (Cooperative Alliance for Seacoast Transportation) is launching a ‘Fare Free Saturday’ initiative, thanks to a partnership with Cross Insurance.
The “Fare Free Saturday” sponsorship program is designed to allow local businesses a way to support COAST while encouraging Seacoast residents to utilize the transit services.
Cross Insurance is the inaugural business to participate, and their sponsored fare-free day will occur this Saturday, March 22.
“As household costs continue to rise, we want to remind people that COAST is a resource for getting where they need to go,” said Rad Nichols, executive director of COAST. “Our new ‘Fare Free Saturday’ program offers businesses the opportunity to invest in public transportation in the region. Every dollar invested in COAST generates more than $4 in local spending. When people can get to work, shopping, or social activities affordably, it’s a win for everyone.”
COAST provides fixed-route buses serving 10 communities in the greater Seacoast area, and demand response and paratransit services to 13 communities in New Hampshire and Maine. The sponsored Fare Free Saturday will apply to both.
“Cross Insurance recognizes the vital role that COAST plays in connecting affordable housing, jobs, social supports, and medical services across the Seacoast region,” said Talitha Franggos, commercial lines account executive at Cross Insurance. “We believe in the power of connection and community, and we are excited to be the first business to sponsor a ‘Fare Free Saturday’ aboard all of COAST’s buses and vans.”
In fiscal year 2024, COAST reported 373,940 riders on its fixed and demand response services, a 28.5% increase over the previous year.
Additional “Fare Free Saturdays” will be announced as sponsors are secured. Businesses interested in participating can find more information at coastbus.org/farefreesponsorship.
