Compulsory Vehicle Insurance Delayed
The Latvian Parliament, the Saeima, has postponed the implementation of compulsory third-party liability insurance (OCTA) for all vehicles, including those not in use.
This decision follows public disapproval of the initial plan.
The new enforcement date is set for November 1 of the following year, providing a nine-month delay.

During the debate, opposition figures expressed concerns that while the delay addressed public concern, it did not solve the core issue.
The initial requirement, pushed by an EU directive would have taken affect on December 10.
Lawmakers will revisit the debate on the issue in October.
Opposition parties proposed abolishing this OCTA requirement entirely.
