CopperPoint Names Kellen Booher President and COO

CopperPoint Insurance Company has announced the appointment of Kellen Booher as its president and chief operating officer, effective March 31. This move is part of a planned leadership transition that will see Booher succeed Marc Schmittlein, the current CEO, upon his retirement in the first quarter of 2026.

Booher will report to Schmittlein and work alongside him for the next year to ensure a smooth transition. Schmittlein will then retire and transition to the role of Executive Chair of the CopperPoint board of directors.

Booher joins CopperPoint from Chubb, where he most recently served as executive vice president and head of consumer and small commercial for key international markets. His prior roles at Chubb also included leadership in digital transformation throughout North America and international operations. Before Chubb, he held positions in product, distribution, and analytics at The Travelers Companies.

As president and COO, Booher will be responsible for overseeing the execution of CopperPoint’s business strategies and leading its operational functions. He will be charged with key areas, including underwriting and claims, data-driven decision-making, and talent development across the company’s 21-state footprint. He will also continue the company’s transformation initiatives and support its overall growth objectives.

In 2023, CopperPoint reported a combined ratio of 100.8%, indicating a near break-even performance in claims paid versus premiums collected. During the same period, the company held approximately $5.2 billion in assets and achieved $715 million in gross written premiums. Additionally, AM Best reaffirmed the company’s financial strength rating at A (Excellent), recognizing its strong financial performance and stability.

CopperPoint’s current board of directors includes:

    • Marc Schmittlein (appointed in 2016)
    • Marita Zuraitis (appointed in 2021)
    • Thomas Bradley (appointed in 2024)
    • Monica S. Digilio (re-appointed in 2024)
    • LoriAnn Vaughan
    • Michael Mathias (appointed in 2022)
