The Cross River State Police Command is now enforcing the third-party vehicle insurance policy across all 18 local government areas within the state. The enforcement of this policy, as directed by Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, began on February 1, 2025.
In a press release, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, stated that State Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah, emphasized the importance of acquiring legitimate third-party insurance from licensed insurance providers approved by the National Insurance Commission.
CP Grimah highlighted the critical nature of the policy in ensuring the safety of innocent third parties in case of accidents. It also guarantees financial compensation for damages, injuries, or loss of life. He also urged vehicle owners who have yet to secure this insurance to do so immediately to avoid possible legal consequences.
Additionally, the Commissioner warned officers involved in the enforcement to maintain professionalism and avoid rights violations or extortion. Any officer found in violation of these standards will face strict disciplinary measures.
