DIXON, Ill. — The Dixon Police Department is advising residents of potential issues with their vehicle registrations. Officers have stopped several vehicles recently with registrations listed as “Suspended For Mandatory Insurance Violation,” despite evidence of valid insurance coverage.
The Illinois Secretary of State (SOS) is in the process of mailing Insurance Verification Letters throughout the state. The SOS uses a third-party vendor for electronic insurance verification through a website, www.ILIVS.com. According to the police, numerous people are experiencing registration suspensions even though they possess valid insurance.
These letters are being sent to the address currently on file with each driver’s license. Residents are advised to check that their address on their driver’s license is up-to-date to ensure they receive these important communications. Should a resident receive a letter, they should contact their insurance company immediately. The insurance provider can then log in to the verification system to confirm the vehicle’s coverage.
