A federal grand jury has indicted four Louisville men on charges of wire fraud and identity theft, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
In an announcement, the DOJ detailed the indictment against Anthony Phillips, 61; Aubrey Walker, Sr., 50; William Walker, 49; and Robert Lewis, 44. The men are accused of wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy, and aggravated identity theft.
Court documents indicate that Phillips is also charged with unlawfully transferring, possessing, or using a means of identification belonging to another person. The alleged crimes took place between May 1, 2023, and November 14, 2023.
Prosecutors allege the men conspired to defraud a company by falsely representing themselves as representatives of the company’s small business clients, in order to make fraudulent purchases and charge them to the client accounts.
The indictment states that the fraudulent activities involved interstate commerce originating from the Western District of Kentucky. If convicted, Phillips faces a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison, with a maximum sentence of 26 years. The other three defendants each face a maximum sentence of 20 years.
The DOJ also noted that there is no parole in the federal system.
