About Figo Pet Insurance
Figo earned a 4.5-star rating overall due to their customizable accident and illness plans that bundle many perks. For example, Figo might reduce your deductible by $50 each year you avoid filing a claim. The company also has a handy app with features that help you manage your pet’s well-being. You can use it to set up health reminders, chat with a veterinarian 24/7, view your pet’s medical records, and file and track claims.
Policies offer coverage for orthopedic conditions, prescription medications, non-routine dental treatment, cancer treatments, and more. However, Figo won’t cover prescription food or sick exam fees unless you upgrade your plan. Supplements are not covered, and accident-only coverage isn’t available.
Figo has a partnership with Costco. Costco members might be eligible for a discount on their policy.

Figo Plan Options
Deductibles: A pet insurance deductible is the amount you pay in vet bills before the insurer starts reimbursing you. Figo’s annual deductibles generally range from $100 to $1,500. Not all options are available to all pets.
Reimbursement Amounts: You can choose to be reimbursed for 70%, 80%, 90%, or 100% of your expenses.
Figo calculates the reimbursement rate on your eligible vet expenses before subtracting your deductible. This results in a slightly smaller payout compared to companies that deduct the deductible first. For instance, with a $1,000 vet bill, 80% reimbursement, and a $100 deductible, the calculation would be:
- $1,000 vet bill x 0.8 (80% reimbursement) = $800.
- $800 – $100 deductible = $700 total reimbursement.
You would end up paying $300. A company that deducts the deductible first would reimburse a bit more, $720 in this example.
Coverage Limits: Pet owners have a choice of annual coverage limits: $5,000, $10,000, or unlimited.
Restrictions and Waiting Periods
Age restrictions: Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to be covered. Figo has no upper age limits.
Waiting periods: Pet insurance waiting periods are the time between when you buy your policy and when the coverage starts. Figo’s waiting periods are typically one day for accidents, 14 days for illnesses, and six months for orthopedic injuries in dogs. However, you can potentially waive the orthopedic waiting period if your vet examines your dog and completes the company’s waiver form. Waiting periods can vary by state.

Figo Pet Insurance vs. Competitors
Here’s a comparison of Figo with three other popular pet insurance companies.
Figo vs. Healthy Paws
While both offer accident and illness policies and the potential for unlimited annual coverage, Healthy Paws offers fewer coverage options than Figo. It does not have a wellness package, exam fee options, prescription diets, or behavioral modification coverage, all of which Figo can cover. Healthy Paws also does not insure pets aged 14 and older, but Figo has no upper age limit.
Healthy Paws covers hip dysplasia only for pets under 6 years old when enrolled and doesn’t offer a 100% reimbursement like Figo. However, Healthy Paws allows direct payments to your vet, a feature Figo does not offer.
Figo vs. Trupanion
Both offer accident and illness plans with no annual limits. Trupanion does not provide wellness coverage, meaning it won’t pay for parasite control, vaccinations, or spaying/neutering.
Trupanion doesn’t offer a 100% reimbursement option. In most states, they offer 90% reimbursement for all pets.
Trupanion’s deductible is per condition and does not reset yearly, which means if your dog needs regular medication, you’ll pay the deductible for that medicine only once. Figo has an annual deductible
Figo vs. Nationwide
Both offer customizable accident and illness plans. Figo’s plan can reimburse you up to 100% of vet bills after your deductible, while Nationwide’s plans offer 50% to 80% reimbursement. Both offer 24/7 access to vet support.
