The Lake Highlands Public Improvement District (PID), in partnership with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department and the Dallas Police Department, is offering a free shredding event this weekend, providing a valuable service to the community.
Neighbors can safely dispose of sensitive documents at the event and help prevent identity theft.
Experts consistently recommend shredding sensitive documents to guard personal information and avoid data breaches. Shredding also helps maintain an organized and secure environment.
Residents are invited to bring up to two file boxes of documents to be professionally destroyed, free of charge. Acceptable items include old billing statements, bank statements, canceled checks, medical records, resumes, photos, junk mail, magazines, and travel documents. Staples, paper clips, metal strips from hanging files, manilla folders, paper board legal binders, and spiral notebooks do not need to be removed.
However, certain items are prohibited. These include ring binders, cardboard, books, plastic, x-rays, batteries, combustible items, cell phones, key fobs, remote controls, electronics, cables, computers, syringes, glass, cans, cardboard tubes, ink and toner cartridges, nuts and bolts, soiled or oily paper, trash, or food.
The free Safe Shred event is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center, located at 9940 White Rock Trail. Participants can drive through and drop off their items on the Church Road side of the building.
