Hamilton Global Specialty, part of Hamilton Insurance Group, is making several key appointments as it continues to grow its presence in the US property and excess & surplus (E&S) insurance market. The platform, which reported $2.4 billion in gross written premiums at the end of 2024, is undergoing these changes to strengthen its underwriting leadership.
On Tuesday, Hamilton announced the appointment of Sinead Cormican as the new active underwriter for Syndicate 4000, effective April 1, 2025, pending regulatory approval. This move aligns with Hamilton’s strategy to foster internal talent and bolster its underwriting leadership at Lloyd’s of London. Cormican has been with Hamilton for a decade, most recently serving as deputy active underwriter since 2020. Before that, she headed the company’s Property Direct and Facultative (D&F) business. Cormican will report to Miles Osorio, Hamilton’s chief underwriting officer.
In addition to Cormican’s promotion, Sukh Chana and Mark Johnson have been named joint deputy active underwriters. Chana will continue in his role as head of financial institutions, a position he has held since Hamilton acquired Pembroke in 2019. Johnson remains head of property D&F, bringing two decades of industry experience, including ten years at Hamilton.
The appointments follow the planned retirement of Trevor Ormes, deputy active underwriter and head of professional lines. Ormes is retiring on April 30, 2025, after a 40-year career in the insurance industry.
These leadership adjustments coincide with other recent changes at Hamilton. Mike Thorp was appointed head of space and Chris Golder as head of treaty in February. Thorp, who joined Hamilton in 2015, was crucial in launching its space underwriting business. Golder brings 16 years of experience in the insurance sector, joining the company in 2023.
Hamilton, which underwrites through Lloyd’s Syndicate 4000, Hamilton Insurance DAC in Dublin, and Hamilton Americas, has been actively expanding its specialty lines of business. The company’s key insurance lines include:
