HDI Global Launches Climate Consulting to Address Rising Risks
Major players in the business world are increasingly focused on understanding and mitigating the impacts of climate change. In response to this growing need, HDI Global has announced the launch of Climate Consulting, a new service designed to assist businesses with comprehensive climate risk assessment and management.
This service provides companies with rigorous analysis of their vulnerability to both chronic and acute physical climate risks, offering actionable strategies to minimize potential damage. The Climate Consulting service evaluates these risks under three distinct climate scenarios, looking at various time horizons extending out to the year 2100. This forward-thinking approach enables businesses to anticipate and prepare for future climate-related challenges.
The assessment process includes both desktop analysis and on-site inspections. Desktop assessments cover a range of factors, including topography, regional climate patterns, and current and projected natural hazard risks. On-site inspections allow for a detailed evaluation of the potential impacts of climate risks on a company’s infrastructure, logistics, and operational facilities. A site-specific advisory report is then delivered, which includes tailored recommendations for risk mitigation measures.
The Financial Times recently reported a notable surge in sustainability consultancy as companies navigate new regulations. In the UK, for example, spending in this area is projected to increase by 6% in 2024. This growth is largely driven by the need for businesses to comply with evolving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) regulations. Consultants play a crucial role in helping organizations assess their material risks and impacts, a requirement under directives like the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
According to HDI Global, Climate Consulting is specifically designed to help companies identify climate-related risks and develop effective strategies to address them. Lars Regner, head of resilience services at HDI Risk Consulting, emphasized that the service responds directly to increased client demand for practical, operational recommendations that enhance climate resilience.
Climate Consulting delivers recommendations based on a thorough combination of data analysis and on-site assessments. The service performs technical risk assessments on specific plants, processes, and operational aspects within a company to determine future physical climate risks and propose appropriate mitigation measures.
