    Recent Developments in the Insurance Industry

    The insurance sector has witnessed several significant appointments and partnerships recently, with major players like Rokstone, Gallagher, and Westfield Specialty making strategic moves to enhance their market presence.

    Gallagher Appoints Former Banking CEO

    Gallagher has appointed Clare Francis as an independent non-executive director. Francis brings extensive experience from the financial sector, having served as CEO of Standard Chartered in the UK and held long tenures at Lloyds Bank and HSBC. At Gallagher, Francis will chair the remuneration committee and join the nominations, audit, and risk committees. Gallagher CEO Michael Rea emphasized Francis’ expertise in leading large financial institutions through significant growth periods, stating that her insights will be invaluable as the company continues to build on its success.

    Westfield Specialty Expands Offshore Energy Team

    Westfield Specialty International has strengthened its offshore energy team with the appointment of Michael Poulteney as class underwriter and Manraj Kailia as senior underwriter, both based in London. Poulteney joins from Arch Insurance after a 10-year tenure, bringing over 15 years of insurance industry experience. Kailia, who spent seven years at Arch, began his career as part of the Lloyd’s graduate scheme. These appointments are part of Westfield’s ongoing investment in expanding its offshore energy capabilities.

    Rokstone Expands Casualty Division

    Rokstone, an international specialty re/insurance MGA and part of the Aventum Group, has announced the appointment of Matt Bishop as class underwriter in its newly established UK and Ireland casualty division. Bishop brings 35 years of experience in casualty insurance across various markets. He joins Rokstone after serving as senior underwriter at Convex for five years. The division, supported by A-rated Lloyd’s capacity, will focus on products including employers’ liability, public liability, and property insurance.

    These strategic appointments demonstrate the ongoing evolution and strengthening of key players in the insurance industry.
