Louisiana Department of Insurance Highlights Life Insurance Policy Search Tool
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Insurance is reminding residents of a valuable resource available to them following the loss of a loved one: a free tool that allows them to search for outstanding life insurance policies.
This search tool, maintained by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), casts a wide net, scouring life insurance policy records across all 50 states.
Officials emphasize that the tool is accessible to anyone, including legal representatives and designated beneficiaries.
To initiate a search, users need specific information about the deceased, including their social security number, legal first and last name, date of birth, and date of death. Additionally, a copy of the deceased’s death certificate is required.
It is important to note that search results may take up to 90 days to process. Furthermore, a response is only provided if a match is found. Individuals who are not the named beneficiary or lack legal authorization to access the policy information will not receive a response.
According to the Louisiana Department of Health, millions of dollars in life insurance benefits go unclaimed annually because individuals are unaware of existing policies or are unable to locate them. This search tool serves as a crucial mechanism to help ensure that beneficiaries receive the benefits to which they are entitled.
