Florida startup Mangrove Property Insurance Company has appointed Tim Cotton as its Chief Operating Officer (COO), bringing in a seasoned industry veteran to bolster its leadership team. Cotton’s appointment follows four other recent executive hires, signaling Mangrove’s commitment to growth and stability in the Florida property insurance market.
Cotton brings over three decades of experience to Mangrove, with 28 years dedicated specifically to the Florida property market. His previous roles at Olympus Insurance Company, where he served as Chief Operating Officer, and other firms like AmCap Insurance, Swyfft, and UPC, have provided him with a broad range of expertise. He has experience in underwriting, policy services, sales, marketing, and claims.
Mangrove highlighted Cotton’s experience in developing innovative programs, particularly those focused on repair options and home restoration. Stephen Weinstein, CEO of Mangrove, emphasized the importance of a strong team: “Great companies are built by great teams. Mangrove is determined to be a long-term, stable property insurance solution in Florida, and is dedicated to a high level of underwriting and claims service.”
Joining Cotton on the executive team are several other key hires. Brian Turnau, who was appointed Claims Director in March, brings more than 20 years of insurance industry experience, including roles at FedNat and as an independent insurance consultant, as reported by The Insurer. Chris August, who joined in February as Head of Distribution, has over 23 years of experience at companies like Orchid and AmCap Insurance. Allan Franklin, appointed Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer in December 2024, brings 15 years of accounting experience from both public and private sectors, including Cabrillo Coastal General Insurance Agency and Thomas Howell Ferguson. Eduardo Miranda joined the team in February as Senior Vice President of Risk, Underwriting, and Analytics, bringing over 25 years of industry experience, including leadership positions at Universal North America.
Earlier in March, the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation granted Mangrove Property Insurance Company approval to assume policies from Citizens Property Insurance Corporation during the June 2025 takeout process. This approval further solidifies Mangrove’s position within the state’s insurance landscape and its ability to provide comprehensive coverage to Florida residents.
