Marsh Promotes Russell to Global Head of Wholesale, Meah to Head of Strategy
Marsh, the insurance brokerage arm of Marsh McLennan, has appointed Adam Russell as the Global Head of Wholesale, effective immediately. Based in London, Russell will report to John Donnelly, president of Global Placement at Marsh. In this role, Russell will oversee Marsh’s global wholesale insurance broking operations, including portfolio solutions. He will focus on developing Marsh’s global wholesale and facultative business, providing clients with a comprehensive range of capabilities.
Russell brings over two decades of international experience to the role, having served as head of Strategy, Global Placement since December 2023. He joined Marsh in 2014 and previously held senior leadership positions within Marsh’s international wholesale placement business in Singapore before becoming Placement Leader for Marsh Asia’s retail business in 2018. In 2022, Russell relocated to London to lead Marsh’s UK Portfolio Solutions and Digital Placement teams before moving into his current position.
Succeeding Russell as head of Strategy, Global Placement is Charlotte Meah. Meah joined Marsh in 2013 as a senior advisor in the risk consulting business and most recently served as chief of staff, Marsh Specialty & Global Placement. She is based in Atlanta and also reports to Donnelly.
Speaking on the appointments, Donnelly stated that bringing together their wholesale capabilities under Russell’s leadership will allow Marsh to provide clients with unparalleled and consistent access to the best and most appropriate markets and solutions, regardless of their location.
Markel Strengthens Wholesale Claims with Promotions and New Hire
Markel, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc., has announced three internal promotions and the hiring of a technical claims lead to enhance its wholesale claims service for brokers, insureds, and trading partners.
Dan Thomas has joined Markel as marine technical claims lead. In this role, Thomas will work as part of their marine liability claims team, providing feedback on policy wordings and claims insights to underwriters for both renewals and new business, while also fostering relationships with broker partners. He will collaborate with the business’ actuarial and outwards reinsurance teams, ensuring they are kept informed of key developments. Thomas’s experience in the industry spans over two decades. Previously, he was head of Marine Claims at Helvetia Global Solutions UK.
In addition, Debbie Larkin has been promoted to claims manager – Energy, Liability, and Terrorism, effective March 31. She will be responsible for upstream, midstream, and downstream energy claims, as well as claims written as part of Markel’s sustainable energy, conventional power, and terrorism portfolios. Larkin, who has been with Markel for almost two years, will lead a dedicated team of claims handlers. Before joining Markel, Larkin spent 15 years advising insurance carriers on coverage, defense, and policy wordings.
Rachel Tighe is promoted to claims manager – Professional Indemnity (PI), effective immediately. Her duties will include managing the PI wholesale claims team, ensuring they continue to provide a market-leading claims service, fostering closer broker interaction, and supporting other team members’ professional development. Tighe joined Markel over five years ago and has extensive experience in PI and insurance. Prior to Markel, she worked as a claims solicitor at AmTrust Europe Ltd.
Natalie Myhill has been promoted to claims manager – Financial Institutions (FI). Her primary objectives will involve managing the FI wholesale claims team by supporting them in resolving complex claims matters for FI and fintech clients and maintaining strong relationships with Markel’s broker network. Myhill joined Markel in 2020. Both Tighe and Myhill are co-founders of Markel’s and DAC Beachcroft’s joint initiative “Mentoring the Market (MTM).”
Tighe and Myhill will report to Jonathan Pestell, head of Claims – Specialty, and Larkin will report to Thomas Upton, head of Claims – Marine, Energy and Casualty at Markel.
