Marsh & McLennan Agency Sues Alliant, Former Employees

Marsh & McLennan Agency (MMA) has filed a lawsuit against Alliant Insurance Services and five former employees, alleging a conspiracy to steal clients. The suit, filed in New York federal court, claims the defendants breached non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements.

The brokers previously worked at PayneWest Insurance Inc., a firm MMA acquired in April 2021. MMA alleges that Alliant followed its pattern of business growth by recruiting these former employees and convincing them to move clients over to Alliant.

The lawsuit, Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC v. Alliant Insurance Services et al., names Travis Davis, Susan Coetzee, Keegan Richardson, Raiza Robles, and Amanda Gunn. Davis, a former part owner and sales executive at PayneWest, signed a restrictive covenant. By 2024, Davis’s client book generated over $1 million in annual revenue.

In March 2024, Alliant began recruiting Davis, who then persuaded members of his client support team to join. MMA states that more than 30 clients have switched to Alliant since Davis resigned.

MMA is seeking declaratory and injunctive relief, along with compensatory and punitive damages for breaches of the former brokers’ restrictive covenants, misappropriation of trade secrets, tortious interference, and breach of fiduciary duty.

Representatives for the involved parties have not commented on the situation.
